Education is one of the most important tools in a person’s life, to develop knowledge,
skills, personality and attitude, and to fight against poverty and discrimination among the
underprivileged category of people. The chances for better employment also increase
with education. According to UNICEF, each additional year of schooling increases a
child’s future earnings by about ten percent, and reduces a country’s poverty rate by an
average of nine percent. Despite compulsory education for children between the ages of
6 and 14, tens of thousands of children in some parts of India, still do not have access
to adequate education. Many children are also unable to attend school for financial and
geographical reasons. Parents can barely feed their children and are unable to pay for
their education. We are aware that only quality education can bring about social change
and development in society.
We at LIGHT in LIFE would like to make our sincere contribution in the field of
education to the deserving and needy children. Through this project, we have extended
educational financial assistance to the poor children from remote tribal areas in seven
north-eastern states of India – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya,
Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura.
As part of this project, we have already started two sponsorship projects in these seven
states to ensure that these children receive a proper primary education.
a. Sponsorship CHF 300.00 per child per year including school books, uniform,
food and accommodation:
This project is specially designed for children who come from distant places and have
no means of transport. These children are given the opportunity for food and
accommodation, and study in the school’s own premises.
b. Sponsorship CHF 150.00 per child per year, excluding food and
accommodation.
Both programmes aim to educate children from kindergarten age. It would be desirable
that they are being sponsored for five years. If this is not possible, LIGHT in LIFE will
take over the remaining years. We are committed to educate them for a period of five
years. If our financial situation permits, we will ensure that these children complete their
primary school education.
Through the LIGHT 4 CHILD project, we have sponsored more than 200 children per
year for the last five years, including 100 children per year with boarding and lodging.
In 2023, we aim to provide primary education to 300 needy children
